Slightly miffed at the immediate dismissive way he was being treated, Phoenix pulled out the reciept for Alfred's burger purchases. "Your Honor, I can assure you that we have solid evidence this time. Examine: a reciept for burgers, printed at 9:32 PM on the night of the murder an paid for by Alfred F. Jones!"

Grinning, Maya turned to her partner. "Bingo, Nick!"

The Judge looked at the receipt with wide eyes and said "Why! He's right! Since this is the case, there is no way that Mr. Jones could be responsible for the death of Annie Winston!".

Prosecutor Payne gave his irritating laugh and said "Hee hee hee...You may have been able to prove that Mr. Jones is innocent, but the receipt does not prove Ms. Callie Winston's innocence. At the time of the murder, she was supposedly in the hotel room. That is not a good alibi,".

"On the other hand, after some thought, the defense has come to a conclusion: Callie is shorter than Alfred, and her body type is too different from Alfred's to properly impersonate him!" Countered Phoenix with an almost accusatory point.

Payne called "Objection!" and he then said "Mr. Wright, you need to show proof, or have a witness come on stand. For all we know, Ms. Winston may have had heels on to make herself as tall as Mr. Jones, and the photo you gave doesn't show her feet,".

His hope dimmed momentarily Phoenix was hit by a helpful memory of a useful tidbit. "In that case... The defense calls Arthur Kirkland to the stand!"

((AHAHAHAHA! Finals are over! I'M FREEE!!! XD
...For now. DX))

There were no objections from Payne, and soon the familiar brit was at the stand.
Payne stated "Name and Occupation,". Arthur answered "My name is Arthur Kirkland, and I am an ambassador for the United Kingdom of Great Britain,". There seemed to be a hint of pride when he introduced himself.

((And I just finished my last state test. Just a couple more weeks, hon. *high five*))

Taking mental note that apparently all of Alfred's coworkers were ambassadors (which explained the diversity among them) Phoenix immediately cut to the chase. "Mr. Kirkland, earlier you mentioned seeing the defendant's jacket go missing. This leaves any potential killer the opportunity to have stolen it and impersonated the defendant. Would you please testify to the court about this?"

((Sorry for the wait. Been busy. -_-"
And I've learned that jury duty...sucks.))

Arthur started "Of course!"

Witness Testimony

Arthur spoke with his fingers on his chin in thought "After the meeting, I went with my friends and that frog, Francis, to the bar. Before I left, I saw that Alfred left his jacket on the chair. However, when I looked back after a couple of drinks, the jacket was missing,".

*~*~*

The Prosecutor asked skeptically "How is this testimony supposed to help?".
The Judge ignored Payne and he said to Wright "Begin your Cross Examination Wright,".

Cross Examination

"After the meeting, I went with my friends and that frog, Francis, to the bar,".

Arthur's testimony was an extra buffer of innocence for his client, but there was something else Phoenix was trying to dig out to expose the true criminal. At this point, the Judge knew him well enough not to even ask if he wanted to cross-examine this time.

"HOLD IT!"

"Did anyone stay behind in the meeting room, Mr. Kirkland?" For Callie's sake, I hope so...

Arthur ran a hand through his messy blonde hair and he answered "Mmmnnn...I'm not really sure,". Payne merely rolled his eyes at Phoenix's question and answer.

"Alright, please continue your testimony." Phoenix spoke calmly, but he clenched his fist tightly under his bench. Darn. Now I don't know who else I could ask about that. I know who I want to ask, but there's no way I can ask him just yet, is there?

Maya, meanwhile, started taking occasional looks at the crowd, searching for Sam. If he's here, we can find some way to make him 'fess up! Now that Alfred's definitely not guilty, he can't say anything that can reconvince anyone, right?!

Sam was in the audience with his arms crossed, looking a lot like a cold Edgeworth from long ago. He was with the rest of the band. Leo had managed to keep Edward calm with gummi snacks.

The Judge sighed and said "Continue your testimony then, Witness,". Arthur answered politely "Yes, Your Honor,", before he continued his testimony.

((Haha, gummi snacks. I almost want to make an Ema Skye joke there.))

Maya shuddered and tried not to imagine that Sam was staring at her. Even if he didn't notice her, it felt like cold water down her back.

Phoenix was good at coming up with questions by now. The hard part was getting away with asking them without irritating someone. This one better do something...

"HOLD IT!"

"Was there anyone sitting near Mr. Jones who would have had an easy time taking his jacket without being noticed?"

((LOL! XD Oh yeah...! 'Snackoos'!

Oh! By the way, have you seen the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney movie? cheesy ))

Arthur thought about it and he answered "Now that you mention it, Feliciano was sitting closest to Alfred's seat...".

One could see Feliciano shake and cower in his seat.

((I wasn't even aware there was a movie. There goes an hour or two of my weekend, then. XP))

Maya certainly noticed Feliciano's fear. So did Phoenix, and they shared a quick wink before he continued.

"Well, thank you for that information, Mr. Kirkland. I think we're finished with this cross-examination, since we might need to call Mr. Vargas to the stand. He's looking a bit... suspicious at the moment."
